Fluorescent Tubes

Fluorescent tubes are found in offices, factories and even homes. They come in many different lengths and wattages. The wattage of the fluorescent tube determines its length. Generally you can only replace a fluorescent tube with another one of the same wattage and length. The most popular fluorescent tubes are T8, 18W (2ft in length), 36W (4ft in length) and 58W (5ft in length). T5 fluorescent tubes are now being sold as they are more efficient.

T5 Fluorescent Tubes

T5 fluorescent tubes are five-eighths of an inch or 16mm in diameter, They are narrower than a T8 fluorescent tube, however they provide much better efficiency than a T8 fluorescent tube.

T5 tubes are available in 6W, 8W, 13W, 14W, 21W, 24W, 28W, 35W, 39W, 54W and 80W

It is not possible to directly replace an exisitng T8 fluorescent tube with a new T5 fluorescent tube, as the control gear for each is different.

T8 Fluorescent Tubes

A T8 fluorescent tube is one inch, 26mm in diameter and T8 fluorescent tubes are now the most common fluorescent tubes in the world today.

T8 fluorescent tubes are available in 10W, 15W, 18W, 30W, 36W, 58W and 70W, and in a range of colours from warm white, white, cool white and daylight.
